Let’s face it: there is rarely an instance when I am pleased to go to school. For three- fourths of the school year, I am forced to devise ways in which I can get myself out of school.
However, there is a three month period in which I am not forced to invoke such practices: the magical third nine weeks. For three months, I religiously check the weather, hoping to see those beautiful snowflakes appear on the screen. Thirty percent, forty percent, fifty percent- it doesn’t matter; snow is snow.
We all love snow days, (until we have to make them up.) With three snow days remaining, it’s time we start thinking about how we are going to go about making them up.
Currently, the plan is to take away President’s Day and add thirty minutes to each school day until the time is made up. It takes two weeks of an extra thrity minutes being added to make up for one day.
Adding thirty minutes is often viewed as less than ideal, as that only adds five minutes to each class. However, compared to the alternative (i.e. taking away spring break) it is bearable.
All in all, snow days are a great surprise break from school. They enable us to catch up on homework, sleep, and allow us a nice break from the hallowed cinderblock halls of Cookeville High School.
If having a snow day too many will result in two weeks of an additional thirty minutes added to the end of the day, then I’ll take the price I have to pay.
