Cookeville Children’s Theatre is now taking registrations for it’s two Summer Musical Theatre Workshop Sessions.  The first session will be held June 6th-10th and the second July 10th-15th is for aspiring actors, singers, dancers, and artists grades K-8.  Staff is comprised of a core of theatre professionals, teaching their particular arts discipline, and will help each child find his or her own door to creative achievement.

Actors will be placed into 4 groups by age and grade level.  Each day groups will be instructed in four specific areas: Theatre, Dance, Music, and Art.  Classes will include character development, improvisation, auditioning, beginning sight reading, dance terminology, and much more.  Both workshop sessions will be held at Cookeville High School, and will culminate in a Friday evening performance.

Both sessions will produce shows that are sure to be a child and crowd pleaser alike! The June Session will feature actors performing the musical School Daze Everyday school-time classes and activities are presented in humorous vignettes with a clever script and seven upbeat musical numbers.

The July Session production, A Kid’s Life, features seven original songs with the premise that a massive electromagnetic attack from outer space has jammed all technical systems, and there is no electricity, no cell phones, no laptops – NO FUN!  All the children on scene are in a panic and don't know what to do, until “Grandpa” and “Grandma” arrive on the scene and introduce them to a day filled with daring and adventure, music and imagination – all without fancy gadgets!

“Our workshop is the best way for a new actor to get involved!” Welch, says, “It gives actors the experience of performing with CCT, within a short time-frame, allowing a new actor to see if he or she is really interested, and giving him or her the chance to gain confidence for future auditions.”

But workshops are not only for the inexperienced, says Welch, “Every opportunity to perform is a learning experience- even our seasoned young actors come back year after year because it is a chance to grow and learn from different professionals; and it’s fun!  The actors who come to our workshops regularly have a polish in their auditions and performances that one can only get from working to perfect his or her craft.”

Registration brochures are available for downloading at www.cookevillechildrenstheatre.com.  Maximum capacity for each workshop is 100 students per session.  The workshop will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. “We are filling up fast!” says Welch.
