The Cookeville Cavaliers defeated their rivals, the Sparta Warriors, this Friday, January 28th, at home. The girls game startedat 6:00, with the boys game following at 7:30. For those of you who have yet to experience a Cookeville/Sparta game, this is a huge rivalry going back at least forty years.
This game produced plenty of passion and excitement from the players and fans from both teams. Regardless of how each team is doing in their respective seasons, players from both teams always seem to have this game circled on their schedule.
Both Cookeville squads are looking to continue their momentum after both teams recently won their homecoming game. In their last meeting, the Lady Cavs defeated the Lady Warriors by five points. On the other hand, the boys team fell short by nine points when they last faced the Warriors on the road.
The Lady Cavaliers, coached by Misty Odom, are undefeated this season in district play and look to continue their dominance. The Cavaliers, coached by Kevin Bray, have only two losses in district play (Sparta and Crossville) and look to continue their recent success at home.
Both the games were close and there was yelling and screaming.
The basketball season is quickly winding down, so enjoy it while it lasts by attending one of the biggest games of the year. Cookeville Cavaliers came away with bragging rights this year and will hold on to them until they meet their rivals again next year.
