Teens, Texting, Driving - A Lethal Combination

You’re driving down the road, jamming to your favorite song, and all of a sudden, your phone starts vibrating in your back pocket. It’s a text. You have several options at this point. Do you:

A. ignore it B. check it C. check it and respond.

Unfortunately, most teenagers choose C. Texting and even talking on the phone are illegal for teens, however on any given day, you can look out of your car window and see a teenager doing just that. We don’t realize how truly dangerous it is to use our cell phones while driving.

We have all watched the news and seen horrible stories of deadly crashes caused by drivers texting behind the wheel, and we all know at least one person who has been affected by texting while driving.

This is a deadly habit—literally! I have a feeling most of us are guilty of it—even adults. We think, “Oh, it will only take a second to answer this. It’ll be no big deal!” Do we ever think about how lives can end in just “a second”? Think about that the next time you receive a text or call while you’re driving.

You cannot multitask! That has been scientifically proven. So, please, focus on one thing at a time…preferably your driving!
