Sunday was National Life Chain Day where over 1,500 cities participated and pro-life advocates give one hour of peaceful demonstration lining the streets holding signs, and, each in their own way, giving an hour of pro-life education by use of their sign.
Putnam County Right to Life was one of those groups that participated in this annual program.
Although it was a rainy Sunday that didn’t discourage the 55 individuals who came out to participate and stand on the sidewalks that stretched out for over one mile long with those participants on Jefferson Street starting at the Church of Christ.
Jennifer, Dwight and 2 year old Logan Phillips were among the participants in today’s Life Chain.
They are big supporters of the Putnam County Right to Life and the Cookeville Pregnancy Center and wanted to show their support today by holding their signs trying to get their message out to those passing by.
Dennis Parker heard about the Live Chain Day just a few days ago and came from White County with his wife to participate.
Dennis has strong feelings for the right to life and has six grandchildren and feels badly that some people don’t have the opportunities he has been blessed with.
Pam Sherrill, President of Putnam County Right to Life, stated, "Normally we think of rain as being a negative thing. But I really think it made more of a statement for those people going by to see people standing out here under umbrellas that they have such a felling for life that they were willing to stand out in the rain to get that message out."
