How Do People See You

By Perryn Rice

I hope you all are having a good week. Every week is filled with numerous opportunities for us to witness and share Christ with the world. Many of us gather together during week at our local churches and talk about the goodness of the Lord and just how blessed we are by the Lord. Many of us also talk with people we do not know well or not at all about the Lord. Well, I want you to understand that you are a very popular person.

Now, you may not be “red carpet” or “paparazzi” popular, but you are definitely well known. You are well known by those who know you by name and have access to you. You are also well known by those we may call “outsiders.”

The verse for this week is one we see and hear often when a person is being ordained to a specific and particular ministry in the church. But the truth the scriptures share about our leaders is still very applicable to all of us. How do those who do not know Christ know you?

Even if they disagree with our belief in the Lord, what would they say about your commitment to the Lord? A Hindu or a Muslim may not declare a hope and belief in Jesus Christ as you do, but would they see that you are a good, decent person? I know many people who are not Christians, but I hope they see a greater good at work in me – even if they can’t explain it, I hope they see it.

Why?

Because the greater good at work in me is a direct result of the One who changed me. Hallelujah! Listen friends, the “outsiders” may never follow you to church, or sit and study the Bible with you, or hold your hand and pray with you. But they should be able to say that you are a strong, convicted, hopeful person who loves humanity and wants the best for society.

You should have a good reputation where they are concerned. And I believe this understanding that the outsiders have about you will eventually open a door to introduce them to the One who makes sure the heavenly stars keep flashing; to the One who has covered us with Christ’s precious blood.
