Algood City Council held a packed meeting Monday night in which the City Manager, Freddy Maxwell was voted out of his position, and Mike Patterson, a former Cookeville City Councilman, was voted in as an interim City Manager.

The vote took place after an hour and a half of heated discussion.

There were several interrelated issues on the table including, intimated violation of sunshine laws, the pros and cons of insurance for the city council, and several back and forth charges between Freddie Maxwell and the council.

One citizen pointed out that issues, not personalities, should be the focus of the meeting.

Several speakers cited specific instances of the good job that Freddie Maxwell has done including raising the city's revenue from $3M to $9M, installing new sewer lines, and new water lines, and general instances of taking care of the citizens, both on a corporate and private level.

Several citizens expressed bewilderment at the council's decision to release a man who was apparently doing a good job.

After all the discussion was done, the vote was taken—first for Freddie Maxwell’s removal.

This vote passed 3 to 1.

A vote to install Mike Patterson to be interim City Manager was then taken, also passing 3 to 1.

Mr. Maxwell closed with words of appreciation for the city, and encouragement to the citizens to be positive towards the future and to all participate in helping the city continue to prosper.
