The Cookeville Depot hosted a 100 Years Parade yesterday comprised of thirty different parade groups.

It was an educational parade, in which every group represented a distinct era through costume and vehicle.

When asked about the vehicles, parade entrants spoke of the function that those vehicles played with the railroad and area businesses, particularly in the early part of the 20th century.

Organizers said that their hope was to raise the levels of pride and enthusiasm that the area has for its railroad heritage.

Led by Director Judy Duke, Depot organizers saw the fruition of months of planning as the 100 year anniversary was celebrated.

Duke said she was "just blown away by what these folks have done here." And it was impressive.

A stream of old vehicles from every era over the past 100 years were driven by period-dressed citizens who suffered the heat to look the part in hats, layers and lace-up boots.

Abraham Lincoln, or his look-alike, was on hand with his family, as were native Americans, a hearse, and much more.

The cast of the up-coming musical "The Music Man" was a fitting central element of the parade and delighted on-lookers with both costume and song.

A little girl, identified as Katie, was heard to say "I like this. They look nice."

They did indeed.
