Just because two new school buildings open for class this fall doesn’t mean, building for the future will not continue.

According to Kathleen Airhart, Director Of Schools "We are in the very beginning stages for Prescott. We are in the process of beginning lay the footers and dig the holes for geothermal, there will be some drilling for geothermal.”

The design of this school will be a first for the area.

Airhart said "Prescott Plus it's a Prescott Middle School plus a Prescott Elementary. It is a unique design, Pre K through four on one side of the facility and five through eight on the other. There is a core area in between that will be shared space. Art classes and things like that will share the space but one side elementary and the other middle school”.

The capacity should help ease the space demands currently on the counties elementary grades.

”The capacity of the middle school only enlarges by about a hundred students." Airhart said, "For the new middle school portion of the facility is for a thousand. For the elementary side of the facility is 600 and this will increase our capacity for elementary by 600 students. What we have noticed in our mapping and zoning projects where our children live is that this will be the first school south of I-40 and we have enough children living south of I-40 to easily fill that school.”

If the construction stays on target and no weather interruptions, delay the project, the company thinks this can be completed on time.

Airhart stated next fall is tharget to open the school, ”We have been assured by the contractor that if they work two or three shifts, they will get us in fall of 2010.”

So just as we are ready to open Jere Whitson and Algood this fall, next fall’s plans include the opening of a unique new school that will ease crowding issues in the counties elementary grades.
