U.S. Cellular Celebrates Earthday at Child Advocacy Center

U.S. Cellular engineers Jim Dillard and Josh Parker do some yard work at the Child Advocacy Center.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn., April 25, 2008— In celebration of Earth Day, U.S. Cellular associates spent the morning of April 19 doing some spring cleaning and general sprucing up around the grounds of the Child Advocacy Center in Cookeville.

“We believe in supporting the communities where our customers and associates live and work,” said Jack Brundige, U.S. Cellular director of sales for Tennessee. “This is a great way to get our associates involved and give back to an organization doing vital work for the safety and security of our children.”

“We appreciate having U.S. Cellular as a generous community partner,” said Jennifer Wilkerson, executive director for the Upper Cumberland Child Advocacy Center. “We are really enjoying the new landscaping.”
The center provides case management and therapy for children who have been abused, as well as abuse prevention and education resources.

U.S. Cellular recently celebrated its first anniversary of providing service to the Cookeville area. “I can think of no better way for our associates to celebrate Earth Day and say ‘thank you’ to this great city and our customers,” added Brundige.

The work at the center is one of five such service projects U.S. Cellular is performing around east Tennessee. In Knoxville, volunteers are making outdoor improvements at Childhelp Tennessee, My Village child care center and at Sam E. Hill Family Community Center. In Maryville, crews are doing landscaping and lawn care at a new facility for the Blount County Children’s Home.

U.S. Cellular is the nation's sixth-largest wireless service carrier, providing wireless service to six million customers in 26 states. The Chicago-based company employs 8,000 associates and operates on a customer satisfaction strategy, meeting customer needs by providing a comprehensive range of wireless products and services, superior customer support, and a high-quality network.
