Every girl dreams of getting a dozen Red Roses. The right guy in the movies floods the room with dozens of red roses. And the romantic dancers wouldn't be the same without a red rose held in his teeth.
But where are the Red Roses at the wedding? The flower of true love has been forgotten in lieu of Daisies, White Roses, Hydrangeas, and multitudes of other flowers.
It may be time to reconsider a bouquet with
fresh beautiful Red Roses.
Here's an idea. Pair roses with Rose of Sharon (also Called Althea) The soft filmy petals and pretty red centers
are an attractive compliment to the rose. The contrast in the depth of color and the tightly closed petals of the rose are highlighted by the frailness of the Rose of Sharon.
Next we added a stem of fruit. The round yellow fruit contrasts nicely and gives a nice weight and shape to the flowers. Differing shapes, weights and colors add interest to the bouquet. We added, what we called, Monkey Grass (but is actually called Liriope) to tie the yellow fruit with the green leaves and it also adds a little height. Belles of Ireland would be pretty also.
The nice thing about working with Red Roses is that they are very versatile. Paired with white antique table clothes and freshly polished silver makes them shine. Or put them in an outdoor venue and they become the classic bouquet for the setting.
The ribbon is a simple twist and wrap. We used black underneath and then wrapped a white ribbon with black polka dots in a narrower width for the contrast.
An old metal chair makes a lovely place to highlight the bouquet. Or place it in a vase on the table as a centerpiece.
Contemporary weddings are a breeze for this classic beauty. Add a black and white tablecloth and a more leisurely feel to the wedding and the red roses are still an excellent choice.
So give an old favorite another chance.
Red Roses are as versatile as they are beautiful. They will add color and romance to any type of wedding.
