“Metal Under Glass,” a collection of enameled metal vessels made by Sarah Perkins, is on display in Gallery One of the Appalachian Center for Craft through Sept. 29. Exhibition hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily.
The properties of metal and glass function together in her work. One substance completes rather than competes with the other.
“As a maker of hollowware, I use the properties of metal: the plasticity, the permanence and the dimensionality. As an enamellist, I use the properties of glass: the preciousness, the surface qualities and the color,” Perkins said.
Perkins has bachelor of arts degree from San Diego State University and a master of fine arts from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Perkins’ work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally. She is professor of art at Missouri State University.
The Appalachian Center for Craft is located approximately six miles from Interstate 40 at Exit 273 (Smithville/McMinnville). Go south on Highway 56; turn left immediately after crossing Hurricane Bridge. This drive leads to the Craft Center.
