Shriners Hold Egg Hunt at Putnam County Fairgrounds

Shriners Hold Egg Hunt at Putnam County Fairgrounds

By Ward Norris

They came; they saw; they picked up eggs.

On Saturday March 22, 2008 at 9:00 A.M. the Putnam County Shriners held their annual Easter Egg hunt at the Putnam County Fairgrounds in Cookeville, TN.

Making a special guest appearance was the Easter Bunny. According to unnamed sources at the scene, the rabbit was flown in by charter jet from the South Pole just for this Cookeville event.

This was not a fund raising event, according to Putnam County Shriner, David Fisk who is Secretary of the local organization. There is an upcoming paper sale, and a circus that serve as the annual fund raising events. This event was just for fun. Mr. Fisk said that the purpose of the Shriners is to help children and burn victims.

Taking full advantage of the abundance of children, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department had four children’s fingerprinting stations which were kept busy the entirety of the egg hunt, with several parents apparently adhering to Benjamin Franklin’s sage advice of, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

The event was a lot of fun—many eggs were found. Parents and children had a wonderful time, and Mr. Fisk summed it up by saying, "It's all about the kids."
