Amidst news of failing banks and economies, Progressive Savings Bank confidently opened some rather impressive new doors on Friday in the Grand Opening of the Cookeville branch on Interstate Drive in Cookeville.
Opening the Cookeville Progressive Savings branch on Willow Avenue in 2006, construction at the new Interstate Drive location has promised an impressive new structure since the ground-breaking a year ago.
The branch has been operating out of a temporary facility on Interstate Drive while construction was underway.
The 33,000 square foot building boasts meeting rooms that encourage community use, and is home to some 20 employees.
Steve Rains, President of Progressive Savings Bank, has been in the family business since his father opened the first branch in June of 1980 in Jamestown.
Almost thirty years later, Progressive Savings Bank has grown steadily with branch locations in Jamestown, Wartburg, Crossville and, most recently, Cookeville.
With a sister company, the insurance agency called The Rains Agency, Inc., Progressive Savings Bank provides full service financial products to clients.
Two customers at the opening remarked that they appreciate the bank because of the way that small accounts and small businesses are embraced and serviced.
Said one Cookeville customer, "Marilyn (the branch Manager) called me at home to alert me to a problem in my checking account. I found that level of service really extraordinary -- most banks don't pay a lot of attention to checking accounts and small business needs."
Hundreds were on hand for the grand opening event, featuring food and a video of the bank throughout construction.
