Nissan Adding Jobs in Tennessee

Tools

By Lucy Norris

Nissan announced this week that they have broken ground on the new lithium-ion battery plant in Smyrna, TN.   This facility will also begin manufacturing the 100% electric Nissan LEAF in 2012, creating 1,300 jobs for the area.

Producing the LEAF and its batteries is seen as both good for U.S. energy independence, and for the regional economy as well.

Companies in Livingston, Crossville, Smithville and the surrounding area all make component parts for the auto maker.  More business in Smyrna may be a predictive indicator of increased business opportunities here as well.
