A Cookeville woman reported a possible scam to the Cookeville Police Department.

She stated that she had received a call on her cell phone from a man with Secor Loan Center in Atlantic City, NJ about a Loan.

She stated that Secor Loan told her that her husband had been pre-approved for a $5000 loan, but they would have to pay a down payment of $800 to secure the loan.

The complainant checked the website, www.secorloancenter.com and called the company back and with indication from the phone system interaction she had every reason to believe the company was legit.

The woman felt apprehensive about sending $800 to secure the loan but her husband told her, he felt it would be OK.

She contacted the Secor Loan Center Rep. and told him she could only afford $700 to send at the time. The company said that would be fine.

She sent the money to North York Ontario, Canada via Western Union after which the Secor Loan Center said the $5000 loan amount would be transferred to her account.

After the money did not appear in her account, the woman borrower called the company to inquire. The Secor Loan Center then explained that they needed another $900 to process the loan.

The women and her husband gave up on getting the loan and asked for a refund.

The company said they would transfer the refund to the Cookeville couple's account, but it never happened and when the borrowers tried to contact them again to check on it, their website and phone number was gone.

Consider the scenario, when you have to pay money to get more money, it is called "gambling".
