By CRMC Staff

Urologist Quinton Cancel, M.D., has joined the staff at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He will be working with Dr. Lee Moore and Dr. Chuck Womack of Upper Cumberland Urology Associates.

Before going to medical school, Dr. Cancel received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Washington University in St. Louis, MO. He continued on to earn his medical degree at the Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, NC. Dr. Cancel completed both his internship in General Surgery and residency in Urological Surgery at Duke University Medical Center. During his education at Duke, he served as a Teaching Resident for General Surgery and a Resident Research Fellow with the Duke University Genitourinary Cancer Immunotherapy Program.

Dr. Cancel trained under Dr. David Albala, one of the premier surgeons on the forefront of robotic surgery, during his residency program. The DaVinci robotic surgical system is the most advanced technology available for patients needing prostate surgery, and it is being done here at Cookeville Regional. The most notable advantages for the patients are shorter hospital stays, smaller scars, less blood loss, and improved visualization.

While at Duke, he also trained with Dr. George Webster, a world-renowned reconstructive urologic surgeon, in the most advanced treatments for male urinary incontinence including artificial urethral sphincters and the male advanced urethral sling. Dr. Cancel has an interest in penile prosthesis for the treatment of severe erectile dysfunction and has learned various techniques during his training.

Dr. Cancel is pleased to be in the Upper Cumberland and looks forward to serving the medical needs of our community. He is currently accepting patients at the offices of Upper Cumberland Urology Associates located at 320 North Oak Avenue in Cookeville.
