Cookeville Physician Indicted for Rape

A Cookeville Doctor has recieved charges of raping a patient in his office earlier this year.

A grand jury has indicted Rexford Agbenohevi, 53, after police investigated claims by a 30-year-old woman. The indictment reads the rape happened back on January 27th.

After learning of the grand jury indictment, Dr. Agbenohevi turned himself in at the Putnam County Jail, where his bond was set for $50,000.  He posted bail and was released.

On the same day listed in the indictment, the woman contacted the Cookeville Police Department and told Detective Sgt. Bobby Anderson that she had been raped. The detective conducted an investigation and recently presented evidence to the grand jury.

Dr. Agbenohevi denies any wrongdoing, police said.

Criminal Court arraignment is scheduled for May 18.
