Cookeville Regional Medical Center proudly welcomes Cardiologist Dr. Mark S. Wathen. He has joined the practice of Tennessee Heart, and he is currently accepting new patients.
Dr. Wathen is a recognized leader in cardiac electrophysiology, a sub-specialty of cardiology that deals with the electricity of the heart and treats heart arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation or other rhythm disturbances.
He came to the Heart & Vascular Center at Cookeville Regional and Tennessee Heart from Vanderbilt Medical Center, where he also served as an associate professor of medicine in the division of cardiology for the teaching hospital.
Over the course of his 20 years at Vanderbilt, he served as the director of the electrophysiology laboratory, where he conducted numerous clinical trials and studies.
Dr. Wathen received his medical degree from the School of Medicine at the University of Louisville in 1984.
He completed his Internal Medicine residency in Atlanta at Emory University in 1987 and his Fellowship in Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX in 1988 as a clinical and research fellow.
He then completed a Fellowship in Cardiac Electrophysiology at University Hospital in London, Ontario, Canada in 1992.
He brings a wealth of experience as a cardiac electrophysiologist to Tennessee Heart, PLLC and The Heart & Vascular Center at Cookeville Regional. Dr. Wathen is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases.
