The Upper Cumberland Regional Hospice Committee is currently planning its first annual hospice conference “Hospice:  It’s More Than You Think” to be held on Friday, October 21 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the TTU Whitson-Hester School of Nursing.  The conference is open to the general public, anyone interested in end-of-life care and healthcare professionals including nurses, physicians, allied health staff, social workers, case managers, hospice volunteers and other interested healthcare staff.

The conference is a collaboration of several organizations and agencies in the Upper Cumberland region with an interest in hospice care.  It is designed to promote the goal of the medical community, hospice services and the public working together in mutual understanding as they ethically, sensitively and expertly minister to the needs of the dying and grieving.

Presentation topics will include how to support both the patient and family to provide a quality end-of-life experience, how the various players involved in hospice care may work together and how to address the gaps in support and communication during end-of-life care.  There will also be a question and answer period for the panel of speakers to take questions from the audience.

The conference will feature renowned speakers who are experts in hospice care from across the state including Dr. James R. Meadows, National Medical Director, South Region, for Gentiva Health Systems; Bernice O’Roarke, RN, MSN, Retired, Founding Director of Ohio Hospice Organization; Sally Aldrich, RN, MSN, Administrator/CNO for Home Care, Hospice and Palliative Care Services at Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare in Memphis; Bishop Felton Smith, PhD of the Tennessee Eastern First Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ and Dr. Hal Chertok of Cookeville Primary Care Associates.

The conference is free; however, a $15 application fee will be charged per person for contact hours and CME credits if needed.  Through the support of generous sponsors, a continental breakfast and lunch will be provided free of charge for attendees.  For more information, to request a conference brochure or to register for the conference, call the CRMC Foundation at 931-783-2037.
