The Steve Gill Show Broadcasted Live In Cookeville
Steve Gill Syndicated conservative talk radio host Steve Gill broadcasted his show live from Veterans Barber Shop in Cookeville on Wednesday, February 27 from 8:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Steve's local guest included Putnam County Republican Party Chairman Darrin Kirkus, along with a host of elected officials such as State Representative Henry Fincher, Cookeville City Councilman Ryan Williams and Putnam County School Board Member Vern Crabtree. Veterans Barber Shop normally does not open until 9:00 AM on Wednesdays, but on this day the doors were open at 8:00 AM for folks who wanted to watch the live broadcast, while enjoying hot coffee and donuts provided by Big "O" Donuts of Cookeville. The Steve Gill Show can be heard LIVE on Cookeville's WPTN 780 and NewsRadio WLAC 1510. Veterans Barber Shop is located at 241-B E. Veterans Dr. in Cookeville, next to the Greyhound bus station, across from the Putnam County Fairgrounds. Steve Gill is an attorney and host of the most influential radio talk show in Tennessee. "The Steve Gill Show" airs statewide on over a dozen stations across Tennessee. He is also the Chief Political Analyst for WKRN News 2 (ABC) in Nashville. Talkers Magazine has twice recognized Gill among the "100 Most Important Talk Radio Hosts in America" and Business Tennessee recently named him among the "100 Most Powerful People in Tennessee" for the third straight year. He has received numerous AIR (Achievement in Radio) Awards, including Best Talk Host in Nashville, and has twice received recognition as a Hero of the Taxpayers from Americans for Tax Reform for his leadership in opposing a state income tax in Tennessee. The Nashville Scene recently named him Nashville's "Best Conservative" for the third year in a row. Gill received both his undergraduate (Honors History) and his law degree from the University of Tennessee, where he played varsity basketball on the 1977 Southeastern Conference Champion team, was President of the Student Body, President of Omicron Delta Kappa, and Student Member of the Board of Trustees. In 1992 he was appointed to a White House Fellowship by President George Bush and served as Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for the U.S. Trade Representative in the Executive Office of the President. During his Fellowship year, Gill served in both the Bush and Clinton Administrations. Gill served on the adjunct faculty of Belmont University from 1991- 2004, teaching international business, business law and negotiations at both the graduate and undergraduate level. He has been a Contributing Editor for Tennessee Business magazine; a Legal Columnist for Advantage magazine; a columnist for In Review newspaper; and is co-author of Tennessee Environmental Law, published by Federal Publications in 1992. He is currently a weekly columnist for several newspapers in Tennessee, including the Nashville City Paper, the Macon County Chronicle, the Dale Hollow Horizon, The Rutherford Reader, Shelbyville Times-Gazette, and the Lebanon Democrat.
