Putnam Habitat To Celebrate 50th Home

Lori Benassi, a new home-owner in 2007 on the first day of construction of her new home.

This Saturday marks a celebration for Putnam County Habitat for Humanity as they begin construction on their fiftieth home to be built in Putnam County.

Habitat has been building affordable homes for families in need since 1995 and is committed to eliminating poverty housing in our community one life at a time.

A majority of this project is funded by Habitat Cornerstone Club members, a special giving club through Habitat for Humanity.

Members will receive a limited edition print of Habitat’s fiftieth home from local artist, Adrienne Stone. Construction on this house will continue through the summer and individuals and groups are encouraged to come out and volunteer on the job site.

"It doesn't cost anything to volunteer and you don’t need to have any experience or know anything about construction," says Volunteer Coordinator, Amy Guidry. "Our only requirement is having the heart to make a difference in the lives of the families we serve." Volunteer Crew Leaders are on site to teach and guide construction volunteers in what work needs to be done for the day. "No one is forced to get on a roof or do something they aren't comfortable with," says Amy. "There is always plenty of work to go around and everyone finds what they can do and are good at. I like to see volunteers learning new skills and having fun while doing it."
