Suspect Arrested After Chase, Crack Cocaine FoundRandall Fulton
A local man was tasered and apprehended by Cookeville Police following a brief foot chase Thursday, May 1, after a computer check showed that the man had a warrant for his arrest.
“While on patrol, I observed Randall Fulton driving west on Spring Street. While checking him for warrants, I turned around to follow. As I got to North Chestnut Avenue, I saw Fulton walking into the end apartment on the Northwest side of the building,” said Officer Jake Short. But when Officer Short walked up to the apartment, he watched as Fulton made his way out the back door. Making his way around the outside of the apartment, Officer Short told Fulton to stop and come to him. Noticing an unknown object in Fulton’s hands, Officer Short drew his taser. “I drew my taser and Fulton turned around and looked at me. He took off running in a southeast direction,” said Officer Short. After about a 40-yard foot chase, Officer Short deployed his taser, striking Fulton in the back. “Fulton fell to the ground and rolled on his back. I ordered him to lie on his stomach and put his hands behind his back. He did not obey my command, so I used the taser again and Fulton rolled on his stomach,” said Officer Short. During a search of Fulton, officers found a “crack pipe” and a plastic baggie containing “crack cocaine”. According to the police report, Fulton began spitting on Officer Short. “On the way back to my patrol car, Fulton started spitting. The spit landed on my pants. While walking Fulton into the jail, he spit on me again,” said Officer Short. Fulton was charged with assault, resisting arrest, evading arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia and crack cocaine. |
