Sparta Bank Robbery Suspects Apprehended

Greg England of the Sparta Expositor reported that two people have been charged in connection with a robbery that occurred at the East Bockman Way branch of Citizens Bank on Friday afternoon.

Tim C. Roberts, 50, and Jennie Sue Langford, 45, were arrested by law enforcement officers after a chase that ended when the alleged suspects’ vehicle crashed on Sullivan Knowles Road, near White County Lumber Company.

According to Investigator Allen Selby, of Sparta Police, emergency personnel at E-911 dispatched officers to the bank after a report of a male subject wearing a mask, as well as a panic alarm received from the bank’s alarm company.

Patrolman J.T. King, of Sparta Police Department, was the first officer to respond to the scene. King reportedly observed a champagne-colored vehicle leaving the bank parking lot “in a hurry” headed toward Gaines Street.

Sparta Police Chief Jeff Guth and Patrolman Jack White reportedly intercepted the suspected vehicle at the intersection of Gaines Street and Highland Drive.

The driver led officers in pursuit toward Highway 111, where they were joined by THP Trooper David Slatton and TWRA Agent Jon Ryan.

The suspected vehicle, reportedly driven by Langford, turned onto Fred Hill Road.

The chase ended when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle around a sharp curve and ended up in a ditch on the west side of Sullivan Knowles Road. The alleged suspects were immediately apprehended.
