Looking for a way to save money? Have an infant or toddler at home? Consider cloth diapers!
On average, it costs between $2000-$3000 to diaper each child from birth through potty training with disposable diapers. With cloth diapers, you can diaper a child for only $300-$400 and you can reuse those diapers for several children!
And if you are nervous about the challenge of cloth diapers, do not worry! Cloth diapers today are not like those your mother used!
Nowadays there are no pins to fumble with. Velcro has replaced pins and the new diaper covers are nothing like the rubber pants that cracked and barely contained the diaper contents.
And there are new products that work just like disposables with Velcro fasteners and elastic at legs and the back to keep the nasty little surprises in but are washable. These are a bit more expensive, but still will cost less than disposables.
Not only are cloth diapers better for the environment, if used for only one child instead of disposables they will save one TON of unrecyclable waste from going into the dump, but they are also better for your baby.
There are many babies that are allergic to the absorbent chemicals in plastic diapers.
Many cloth diapered babies experience less diaper rash due to the fact that air can flow better through natural fibers like cotton than the plastic that most babies wear.
Cloth diapers are truly not much more of a hassle than disposables, just an extra load of laundry every day or so.
It may not be for everyone, but in this scrimp-and-save-every-penny economy, it may be a good option to help you save money as you raise your family.
