Soggy End to Beautiful 4th

The Upper Cumberland area made full use of the beautiful weather this fourth of July, with events ranging from parades to car shows to outdoor parties.

But it's possible that home fireworks displays may have outshown those of the public events this year, just based on timing.

In Cookeville, those seeking to end the day with a free fireworks show, found perches all over the areas surrounding the fairgrounds.

The sea of cars and people outside the Putnam County Fairground event was notably larger than the cars inside the paid concert/MotoX venue.

Citizens gathered for the better part of an hour for the anticipated show, sitting on sidewalks, lawns, streetsides, standing outside of restaurants and stores to see the fireworks.

With drizzling rain, the fireworks show appeared to start ahead of schedule and ended abrubtly after approximately 7 minutes.   The show typically runs for thirty to forty-five minutes.

"I was disappointed but what are you going to do about the weather?" said one man, his son on his shoulders.  "It's been a great day in all.... and there's always next year."
