Vandalism All Cleaned Up
West 9th and Valley Forge The city of Cookeville spent a great deal of the day Friday cleaning up after Vandals created quite the mess. The picture with this story shows a concrete retaining wall on West 9th Street and Valley Forge that was completely covered in graffiti on Thursday night. The wall was cleaned after the public works department for the city of Cookeville spent many man hours removing the unimpressive junk of a few knuckleheads. The public works department indicated between this site and the railroad bridge that city workers time on meaningful projects had to be taken away to clean up the graffiti. The Cookeville Police Department has not mentioned very much about calls concerning these type acts. If you observe this type vandalism you should call the police department or sheriff's department if in the county. One Cookeville resident said "the money paid to the city workers with our tax dollars to take care of important things shouldn't be wasted having to clean up after some misfits." Another commented "it is amazing that they could paint an entire wall that size and no one saw them on such a busy street." Public works did have to use several workers on both locations which took most of the day Friday. Take the average hourly wage for each man involved in the clean up, multiply that by the number of men times an eight hour day and that's what it cost plus cleaning materials and tools. Those hours could have been better used on project already on the work schedule and several motorist who made us aware of this were not amused at all. |
