School Board Takes Field Trip To Monterey, Tennessee

Thursday the Putnam County School Board spent most of the afternoon visiting schools in Monterey because they anticipate having some extra money to spend on upgrades, repairs, and renovations.

Historically, when Tennessee Tech purchased Prescott Middle from the school system, the money was used to fund the building of the new Prescott South K-8.

However, the bids came in lower than expected, and it is anticipated that this will create a windfall of leftover money.

Monterey schools are at the top of the list for repairs and renovations.

Last spring, some consideration was given to Closing Uffleman Elementary and consolidating it with Burks Middle.

However, apparently the citizens of Monterey wanted to see that school kept open, but possibly with renovations and updates.

Yesterday afternoon, the board visited schools and primarily focused on the Monterey High School which apparently has the most significant needs of repairs, upgrades, and renovating.

The board is interested in the citizen's input on this, and the final plans will start to gel in March or April.
