Micropoliton is a term that references a "small city." For several years, Cookeville has ranked among the country's top micropoliton areas, according to the Conway Data Database.
The criteria for selection includes quality of life, crime rate, number of projects bringing new jobs and a variety of other factors. This year, Cookeville was among several cities that tied for 17th place in the national rankings. The rankings include hundreds of cities, so the placement is good news for Cookeville.
Site Selection magazine, the publisher of the ratings, is a periodical that helps companies determine favorable locations for new business with information and data.
Tennessee tied for third most favorable state. Ohio was listed as the top state for business relocation, followed by North Carolina and Tennessee. Tennessee tied with Michigan in the ratings.
The ratings are a vote of confidence for the area, reflecitve of economic development performance in 2009.
Other notable cities in the national rankings included Statesville/Mooresville, N.C. who obtained top status, followed by Wooster, Ohio, Pottsville, PA, Daphne/Fairhope, Ala., Lincolnton, N.C., Ashtabula, Ohioh, Adrian, MI, Columbus, MS, Batavia, NY, Cullman, AL, Findlay, OH, Danville, KY, and Tupelo, MS.
