Thursday night, Knoxville Mayor, Bill Haslam, met at Noble and Jean Cody’s house for a fundraising event which included a full house of some 40 to 60 people.
The event was to have taken place in the garden, but due to rain, ended up in the Cody house and on their back porch.
Apparently, the rainy weather did not dampen the spirits of the crowd which was enthusiastic.
On the back porch, Noble stood on one of the porch’s walls and introduced Haslam. Haslam then helped Noble off the wall and took his place where he’d occasionally hold on to a pole to steady himself as he spoke.
Bill spoke of balancing the campaign duties with being Mayor of Knoxville.
He told several anecdotes about campaigning, some humorous.
Haslam spent some time and went deep in the praise of his wife, Crissy, for her tireless efforts. In a linear fashion, he described how there was an accidental double booking, where it ended up that he asked Crissy to go stand in for him in Memphis while he went to Jackson.
They both had the understanding that Crissy was to be at a meet-and-greet with the other Republican Gubernatorial candidates in Memphis.
But, when Crissy arrived, she was somewhat surpised whe she was told that she would be involved in a debate against the other candidates.
They did work it out with some cell phone calls.
Haslam concluded by encouraging everyone to vote. Some of his own past elections have been very close, votewise.
It was 10 til 7:00 P.M. when he intoned his final words, “We have 42 days and 10 minutes to vote; please go vote.”
