The beauty of the annual Bryan Symphony Orchestra pops concert is that the music ranges from the sublime to the sweet, with a dash of nostalgia thrown in for good measure, so there’s literally something for everyone.

Plus, thanks to the generosity of concert sponsors Sam and Diane Glasgow, it’s free. The opening concert of the Bryan Symphony Orchestra at Tennessee Tech University’s 2010-2011 season begins Labor Day weekend at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 5, at the Dogwood Park Performance Pavilion in Cookeville.

From the “Star Spangled Banner” and “Stars and Stripes Forever” to movie music and Sousa marches, the program is family-friendly. Children’s activities begin at 6:30 – and that’s also when the Men of St. Michael’s will be on-hand to sell snacks and drinks.

Dogwood Park is located behind the Putnam County Library on Broad Street on Cookeville’s West Side. In case of rain, the concert will move to the Bryan Fine Arts Building on the TTU campus, located at 1150 N. Dixie Ave. Additional support for the September concert is provided by the Cookeville Arts Council.
