CRMC Golf Tourneys With Bruce Jenner (Photo Gallery)

The warm days of August did nothing to dampen the spirits of the competitors on the links throughout the beautiful Cookeville Golf Course as some 350 + golfers competed for the prizes Thursday and Friday.

Of course, an added thrill was Olympic Decathalon Gold Medalist, Bruce Jenner, playing on one of the teams on Friday morning, having been at the CRMC Banquet Thursday night at the Leslie Town Centre.

For those of us not old enough to remember, America was having a really rough time in the late 70's and early 80's.  She was coming off of Watergate, with a scandalous resignation of President Nixon, and Viet Nam was still a not-so-distant wound in America's side.

It was one of those eras in America's history where Johnny Cash summed it up in his famous poem about the American Flag, when he said,  "...And the very government for which she stands, has been scandalized throughout out the land. And she’s getting thread bare, and she’s wearing thin...."

And then....suddenly,  Bruce Jenner.

Jenner's not only a brilliant athelete, but a really true-blue,  stand up guy that became an overnight icon.

And Jenner stood for a lot of things to a lot of people, but the biggest thing he communicated to a nation (with esprit de corps dragging in the mud) was, "Hey guys.  It's cool to be an American. And I'm proud to be an American, and you should be too!"

Jenner stood as a lighthouse of hope and healing for an ailing nation--and the nation responded.

Bottom line, it was a thrill and honor to have him in Cookeville, Tennessee, and CRMC did a fantastic job choosing him to be here.

So, that being said, here are the other bottom lines--the winners of the three tourneys.  Many thanks to Craig King for his efforts in the coordination of this data.

And huge thanks to all the Major Sponsors,  Sponsors, CRMC volunteers, Cookeville Golf Course Volunteers, restaurants, and all other providers, hats off for a superlative job.
