At approximately 9:50 pm on Wednesday night, Cookeville Police officers responded to a reported armed robbery at the Dollar General Store located at 1945 North Washington Avenue. Several officers responded to the call, some directly to the store and others to the surrounding area.
A lone white male suspect, wearing dark clothing and a make-shift mask covering his face, entered the store and threatened a clerk with a handgun and demanded money. The clerk did not have immediate access to the store’s money, so the suspect took that employee’s wallet and then fled the store on foot.
As the first-responding officers arrived, they broadcast the suspect’s description to other officers in the vicinity. Almost immediately, Captain Pat Sealy located a person fitting that description walking on a nearby street in a direction away from the Dollar General Store. He took that suspect into custody near the intersection of Bradley Drive and North Maple Avenue.
Captain Sealy recovered a handgun from the suspect, along with a make-shift mask and the victim’s wallet. The suspect was Daniel Hotsinpiller, 24 years old of Cookeville, Tennessee. He was taken to the Cookeville Police Department and, after further investigation by Detective Sergeant Brent Anderson, was charged with aggravated robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon. He remains in the Putnam County jail with total bond set at $125,000.
