Half Delegates For Hillary and Obama
Just when you thought this campaign season could be even more strange....Surprise-it is.
The Democratic National Committee met Saturday and decided that it would allow only half of the delegates from Michigan and Florida to count toward the candidates. The deal would increase the number of delegates needed to get the nomination as well. The new number would be 2118 from the original 2026. Even with all of this being done, Barack Obama still needs only 66 delegates while Hillary Clinton is 240 and half delegates short. Obama has 2052 while Clinton has 1877 and a half. It would appear that Clinton may appeal the decision and drag this out until the convention in August. Clinton was happy with the handling of Florida but disapproves of Obama from receiving anything for Michigan. Clinton says she doesn't think Obama should have been awarded anything in the Great Lakes State since he didn't even have his name on the ballot there. Many of the committee members indicated this was a step to reunify the party instead of being a party divided. Other however say that this will only continue to show a divide within the party. The contests will conclude this week with Sunday's primary in Puerto Rico and wrapping with South Dakota and Montana on Tuesday. |
