LCDR (USN,R) Pat Ryan made statement following the Memorial Service held on the Cookeville Square Monday Morning.

The test, which occurred at 6:54 P.M. Sunday Night (12.54am GMT), caused a 40-second 5.3 magnitude tremor according to Japan's Meteorological Agency.

The blast at a test site 230 miles northeast of Pyongyang was estimated to be equal in power to the bomb dropped on Nagasaki in 1945

Lt. Cmdr. Ryan said that while we shouldn’t worry about a nuclear attack, it is an alarming situation and should serve as a wake up call to China, Russia, South Korea, Japan, and the United States.

Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama had also accused Pyongyang of "…directly and recklessly challenging the international community" and seeking to undermine stability in the region.

Obama continued, “Such provocations will only serve to deepen North Korea's isolation. It will not find international acceptance unless it abandons its pursuit of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery.”
