City Council Moves Forward on Business Park

A very brief (12 minute) City Council meeting was held on March 4th

The last item of business was one of the most significant with the approval of the settlement agreement of the Norma Faye Pyles Lynch Family Purpose, LLC property. This case between the city and the land owners surrounding the Highlands Business Park has been ongoing since 2007. Norma Faye Pyles Lynch owns 20% or about 15 acres that the Highland Business Park was trying to acquire when legal conflicts began.
The Highland Business Park is a planned 367 acre park in Cookeville that is part of the Highlands Initiative. When it is finished in the coming months it will be able to bring in new business to the area, according to supporters.
One of the major businesses that the Highland Park is looking at is the new VW plant that is coming into Chattanooga. The park hopes to be close enough to be able to get some of the supplier business that the VW plant will create.
 
A few of the students from the history class of Councilwoman Anderson were in attendance and were able to see local government in action. This comes as councilwoman Anderson is about to start a lesson on the Constitution. If any more of her history students would like to come for extra credit they will be able to attend the March 18th meeting as well.
The Council wa able to set a date for April 1st for the hearing on Ordinance number 0100302, which is the rezoning of 1629 McCulley Road and 1628 Springboro Road from RS20 (single-family residence) to RS10 (single-family residence). If you would like to hear the council weigh the options on this bill the meeting will be held April 1st at 6:00pm at the City Hall.
 The council reappointed Calvin Dickinson to the Historic Zoning Commission. The commission serves five year terms and is appointed by the Mayor and is confirmed by a majority vote of the City Council.
Next on the agenda was approval of purchase of sanitation carts for the Public Works Dept. Public Works Dept would like to purchase 100 of the sanitation carts at $59.75 a piece from a company out of Nashville. The purchase was accepted by the council with a request that they look for a less expensive way to transport the carts to Cookeville than the $500 shipping fee the company will charge them if they have to bring them to Cookeville.
The next Council meeting is on the 18th of March. If you would like to see your local gov’t in action then join them at 6:00pm at City Hall.
