In an innovative public-private partnership, Governor Phil Bredesen announced that Tennessee will join forces with Microsoft to offer free online technology training. Not only will this be free to citizens of the state, but it is also free to the state. This program is donated to the state by Microsoft Corporation. Through Elevate America, Microsoft will work with the Tennessee Department of Labor to distribute 25,875 vouchers for training and certification in computer software programs. Vouchers may be applied for by going to Elevate America’s website at http:/ /elevateamerica.tn.gov.

There are four levels of E-learning courses with certifications attainable in two of the four categories. Computer Basics for Beginners does not need a voucher and teaches basic computer concepts and skills. Intermediate Level, Business Worker Online Learning and Intermediate Level Certification Exam require vouchers as does the Advanced Level IT Professional Learning.

The cost of certification of the Advanced Level course is not covered by this program. “This is a wonderful opportunity for people to increase their computer knowledge,” stated Phyllis Bennett, Executive Director of the Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency, “and we are thankful to Microsoft and the State of Tennessee for making it available to the public.”

Through the Intermediate Level, Business Worker Online Learning, program training is available for Microsoft Windows Vista, Office 2003 or Office 2007 with certifications available for Office 2003 or 2007. Certifications exams must be taken by July 26, 2010, and must be administered by a Certiport Testing Location. For a complete list of testing locations, go to http:/ /elevateamerica.tn.gov and click on “testing centers”. For more information, call the Tennessee Career Center at Cookeville at 931-520-8733.
