Prayer for America

By Steve Moore

This Christmas season 2009, I pray for America. We are divided more
than I have ever seen in my 69 years of life. And the division is stark.
We have been at each other's throats, especially since 9-11. The debate
over health insurance reform seems to be the most polarizing. There is a
segment of society who wants everything to be given to them. They feel
entitled without expending any "sweat equity."

Then I pray for our military as they are deployed to war zones. Men
and women are volunteering to go into harm's way. We had many soldiers who
left December 5 and 6 for at least 12 - 18 months as part of the 278th.
They are the true peacemakers. I realize the sacrifice they make and pray
for each and every one. There are many empty seats at the dinner tables in
Tennessee tonight, and there will be for at least the next several months.

As we gather around our trees and open our presents on December 25,
let us remember that America is still the greatest nation on earth. We need
a rebirth of that feeling during this Christmas season.
