ISSUES, JUST ISSUES

To hear and see the media lately, you'd think that every Toyota running the roads is a death trap waiting to happen. Out of the total number of Toyotas on the road, how many have been involved in accidents that have been directly attributed to accelerator or brake problems?

How many American vehicles have been recalled because of design flaws over the past several years? Is it not funny that such hysteria and fearmongering accelerated (no pun intended) by the media is directed at Toyota?

I even saw where the media is trying to blame cell phone transmissions and microwaves for the problems.

But I find it curious that GM (Government Motors) is using Toyota's problems to its maximum advange. GM and Chrysler are run by President Obama.

The government taxes them and regulates them so the same entity which governs Toyota's competition is demonizing them. It's another instance of a gradual conspiracy by a socialist-leaning administration to take over our lives.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood muddied the waters when he advised Toyota drivers to stop driving. He caused a 6% drop in Toyota stock. Hysteria and fearmongering are just running rampant--again.

The only winners will be the trial lawyers.

Why must TDOT approve the location of the Monterey portion of a trailhead at the Eastern terminus of the Rails and Trails that will run from Cookeville to Monterey beside the NE railroad tracks?

Could it be that gas tax revenues will pay the bill? There goes another $56,760 or $77,800 that really should be spent for road or bridge construction and maintenance.

Cookeville Regional Medical Center continues to expand. The people of Cookeville are the ultimate debtors. And, cuts in TennCare are on the horizon.

That means hospital bottom lines will be affected. $4M to be spent on OB expansion. How much did the North Tower cost? What is the total bonded indebtedness of the City hospital?

Last Wednesday was signing day for college football players. Tech signed some talented players as did UT and Vandy. The bottom line will be how many graduate. Hopefully, all will.

Speaker of the Tannessee House of Representatives Kent Williams said he had no intention of attending the National Tea Party Convention held at Opryland February 4-6.

Hey, Mr. Speaker, who cares? We don't like RINOs anyway. Have a good upcoming Legislative session, sr. You are not welcome after what you engineered in order to become Speaker last January.

Why is the Putnam County Election Commission being sandbagged relative to its being covered by the County's Errors and Omission (E&O) Policy.

The County pays in excess of $200K per year to cover County officials in the event a mistake results in a lawsuit.

With three elections upcoming in 2010, it would seem that the umbrella be extended to the Election Commission. Will they have to buy their own policy? Were they not covered in past years?

DCs snow plows are 25% inoperable--another Government entity that can't get the job done.
