Here's some items regarding pollution controls and global warming that ought to be brought out. Can you believe that TVA would have had to shutter its Gallatin coal fired steam plant that produces alot of this area's electricity had it not agreed to install pollution control equipment that is supposed to reduce lung related diseases?
The cost will be somewhere around $900 million to $1.1 billion. If these regulations had not been complied with by 2017, this vital plant would have been phased out. There would have been at least 150 jobs lost. This is insane. How would TVA have replaced the electricity? TVA says that power needs may go down for the short term. But who really believes that more power won't be needed in the long run? EPA is out of control, big time.
But, just when you thought that all was lost to EPA regulations, word comes out that the House GOP, the adults in congress, plan to relax EPA rules that would have regulated coal ash as hazardous waste. But first the GOP controlled House of Representatives will act to control an out of control EPA.
Somebody needs to put the quietus on this agency before they put alot of people out of work and cause a steep rise in electricity rates; all in a down economy. You can bet that the dirt people are going ballistic over this.
President Obama has retreated on the enforcement of clean air regs. Again, the sinister EPA was behind this job killer and blow to the economy. Cost estimated at at least $90 billion. That's 90 thousand million dollars. EPA is barred from consideration costs when setting public health standards. Increased government regs are job killers.
And finally, we hear from hysterical Al Gore. He's still at it touting the dangers of global warming. He has temporarily abandoned his quest to pass legislation. Now he wants to reach everyday folks. Global warming may be occuring , but it's not man made. Al is still trying to convince us, but he appears more and more irrational. Don't forget he's made millions from the global warming hoax. He wants more even as more scientists repudiate his theories. Just go away Al, please. Put us out of our misery of having to listen to you. His slide show is a sideshow.
It seems as though the Cookeville billboard controversy has been on going forever. It's the city with their enforcement powers against the 2 billboard companies who simply desire to erect their billboards and various other electronic signs on their rights of way along well traveled thorough fares.
Nobody wants to put one in a residential neighborhood for obvious reasons...not enough traffic. So, here comes the nanny Cookeville city government backed by locals who want to regulate everything in our lives. It's restraint of trade. Billboard operators want to make a decent living, want to sell their products. The city wants to restrain these 2 parties.
The situation will no doubt end up in court. Let's hope the city is knocked down a peg though the original filing and all subsequent appeals. Rein in the nanny state and it's onerous regulations that stifle business.
