SOCK IT TO US SOME MORE!
Coming soon to a neighborhood near you in Cookeville: An excess fee if you have more than one trash can. Think not? We have a new City Council. They all have said that they are concerned with "quality of life" issues. Recycling and the throwing away of so much trash (according to them) is a critical "quality of life" issue. We are sending too much refuse to the landfill. And at least three members are ultra liberals. Nashville is going to charge an excess fee for residential waste. Nashville's fee will be around $3.15 per month per additional trash can, each can holding 96 gallons. As Nashville goes, so goes Cookeville. They don't want to fill up the landfill, or so they say, as their excuse to slap more fees on us. It's the same landfill Cookeville uses. You might note that I used the word "fee." Fees - taxes, what's the difference? It's still money out of your pockets in case you didn't recognize this little gem. So, watch out Cookeville. All it will take is three libs to control our new Council. There's more than one way to circumvent the draconian charge for that second trash can. Several neighbors can pool their resources and use each others' containers when one particular container is full. Just toss your excess in the container across the street or next door. Not everybody fills their container. If you don't, invite your your neighbor to share and vice versa. Also, if a side loading truck picks up in your neighborhood, you can wait until they empty your container and then refill yours and set it on the other side of the street for pickup when the truck comes down that side. Yes, somebody needs to be home for this to work. Less fees and taxes. Spending cuts are in order. said on Friday, Oct 22 at 9:09 AM Maybe the cost of processing solid waste could be mitigated by turning the existing Industrial Park into a land fill. Instead of paying to ship it out of county, we could be paid by other counties to have it shipped here. At least, this would provide some income to help pay for the Fifth Interchange. Add a comment |
