Board of Education Conducts First Required PK-8 Registration
Putnam County Board of Education
This year for the first time, the Putnam County Board of Education is conducting required 2008-09 registration for all students PK-8 during April and May.
On Thursday March 27th, a pre-registration form will be coming home with report cards. Schools are requesting information to begin planning for the upcoming school year. If your child is currently enrolled: 1) will remain in the current school; 2) request to move bus zoned school; and 3) will be leaving the PCS system. Due to recent change in board policy, registration at all K-8 schools will be handled according to established priority registration: (1) Students living outside the bus zone who were enrolled the previous year, teachers’ children, and children of fulltime non-certified staff in that school; (2) Students living in the current bus zone; (3) Students who are siblings of students currently enrolled in that school; and (4) Students living outside the bus zone. Children entering kindergarten: On April 10, from 1:00-5:00, all elementary schools will conduct kindergarten registration. Parents will be given the option to register at any elementary school; however, schools will follow priority registration procedures. Kindergarten students living in the bus zone will be given first priority of enrollment on registration day. Parents who live outside the bus zone and have siblings at the requested school (Priority 3) or have no siblings at that school (Priority 4) will be put on a waiting list and enrolled, space permitting. Parents on the waiting list will be notified of their child’s placement by July 15th. It is important that parents participate in Kindergarten enrollment on April 10th. Enrolling your kindergarten children at their zoned school, assures parents of their child’s placement. Children entering Elementary Grades 1-8: The week of May 12-16 will be Registration Week for children in grades 1-8. Registration times at schools will be announced at a later date. Parents of children returning to their elementary or middle school will complete enrollment forms at that school during Registration Week. Parents of children moving to middle school, will register and complete enrollment forms at the requested middle school. Parents requesting to move to a different elementary or middle school than their child is currently attending will be directed to Central Office for change in enrollment forms. Algood Registration Parents of students in the Algood bus zone may enroll students in grades Kindergarten and 1st may register according to the above dates. Grade levels 2nd through 8th remain at frozen enrollment. Preschool programs: Applications will be on the website (putnamcountyschools.com) or may be picked up at the Central Office after April 1st. Criteria used for accepting children into public preschool programs is determined by the state and includes: children who are four (4) years old by September 30 and who qualify for free/reduced price meals, have a documented disability, and/or are in state or foster care. Other children will be placed on a waiting list and will be permitted to enroll as space allows. Required Enrollment Information In order to enroll in Putnam County Schools at any grade level, the following documents must be provided: Social Security Card, original birth certificate, current immunization records, proof of physical examination and two (2) proofs of residence (utility bill, property tax receipt/bill, voter registration card, and/or a letter from landlord).
