"Engineering a Future" Summer Registration Going on Now
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (April 7, 2008) A summer camp offering 7th and 8th grade girls the chance to launch rockets, build robots and envision careers is now taking applications from students interested in exploring engineering with hands-on, fun activities.
For the second year, Tennessee Tech University is hosting “Engineering a Future-Summer Edition,” a four-day, residential mini-camp designed to energize participants and foster their curiosity about engineering. The camp will run from Tuesday, June 10, at 8:30 a.m. to Friday, June 13, at 4:30 p.m. Based on the overall success and enthusiasm last summer, we’ve added a day of activities and are increasing the number of participants, said Corinne Darvennes, TTU mechanical engineering professor and event chairperson. Professional engineers, as well as TTU engineering faculty members and staff, will lead hands-on activities. To enhance participant’s experiences, camp counselors will be a combination of education and engineering students. TTU’s College of Engineering, College of Education, the Tennessee Space Grant Consortium, Cummins Filtration, and the Society of Women Engineers are sponsoring “Engineering a Future-Summer Edition”. The cost for the workshop is $50. The fee includes meals, housing, T-shirt and activities. Financial aid is available. Participants will remain on campus for both day and evening activities and will be closely chaperoned around the clock by counselors. The registration deadline is Friday, May 2; registration is limited to 30 applicants. Application materials are available at www.swe-uc.org |
