Cookeville High School hosted one of the season’s first Cross Country scrimmages Tuesday as coaches and parents from around the region came with high school and middle school teams.

While a timer was in place keeping official time, none of the times counted on the official season and the race had more of a festive air about it.  The weather was in the mid-80’s with low humidity under perfect, blue skies and the atmosphere was generally festive as the different teams competed in a series of runs.

Head Coach Bill Wrasman along with Leah Burnett, assistant coach, oversaw this scrimmage/jamboree.

Wrasman explained, “Right now they (the team members)  are just going out and doing a ‘tempo run,’ trying to get a good pace against some other people… trying to get some nervousness out.

"Saturday, we go to Macon County to an invitational to officially open up the season. We have 20 girls and 18 boys.   I’m lucky to have a lot of parents and people to help. This year our team of 38 people is a large team this year.   A varsity team is 7 runners, so we have a pretty good number this year.” said Wrasman.
