A Putnam County education leader has been nominated for 2011 Supervisor of the Year for the State of Tennessee and a White County leader has been nominated as 2011 Principal of the Year.

Mae Fowler, a well-known educator and supervisor in the Putnam County School System, has been named along with seven other leaders as one of the state's top education Supervisors.  Fowler is known for her work developing teacher competencies in Putnam County and widely respected for her insights, dedication and sharp wit.

In addition to Fowler, White County Principal Geeta McMillan (Cassville Elementary) has also been nominated as a 2011 Principal of the Year.

The Tennessee Department of Education awards outstanding administrators in education with the Principal of the Year and Supervisor of the Year honors each year.  Fowler was reportedly nominated when identified by peers as demonstrating the leadership and dedication desirable in education professionals. The winners will be named at the annual Tennessee Educational LEADership Conference in September.

Announcing the nominees in Nashville, Education Commissioner Kevin Huffman said, “There is no way we could push forward with crucial education reform in this state without the tireless effort of our leaders."

“The principals and supervisors we recognize today have all helped make Tennessee a better place for kids to learn.”
