Dr. Wallace Prescott, for whom Prescott South Elementar and Middle Schools are named, was recognized by the Putnam County Board of Education Thursday.

Nominated by Principals Cindy Taylor and Catherine Briggs for the “I Make a Difference” award, Prescott was commended for his contributions to education as well as his personal kindness, selflessness, sense of humor and humility.

In addition to that honor, Director of Schools Kathleen Airhart assisted students in another special presentation: a framed football jersey with the number “1” on it.   The jersey represents the first uniform for Prescott South’s newly formed football team, which played their first game recently.

Board Member Bob Hargis helped arrange the gift and drew laughter from the crowd as he quipped, “If they don’t start playing a little better, they may need him to dress out.”

Dr. Prescott commended the School Board and the leadership of Prescott South for the excellent work in education in recent years and said that the school meant a great deal to him.

Prescott  is well known for his long-standing contributions to area education and is a past President of Tennessee Technological University.
