UCHRA Sponsors Summer Training

The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency, in partnership with the Tennessee Technology Centers at Livingston and Murfreesboro, provided occupational skills training for Career Training students who are enrolled in area high schools. The funding was made possible by the Tennessee Department of Labor through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Students in the Career Training Program complete a process which requires thought, direction and determination on selected career paths. Each student attending the summer training at either technology center campus receives a Certificate of Training upon completion of the four-week session. Credited hours are issued toward future licensing in the student’s area of study so that following graduation from high school, the students may exercise the option of returning as full time students at the TN Technology Center so as to complete requirements for certification.

“We are glad to be a partner in Occupational Skills Training; it offers an excellent opportunity for high school students to pursue their interests,” remarked Phyllis Bennett, Executive Director, Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency.

Youth in Putnam County who have a high school diploma, GED or wish to obtain a GED, should call Bonnie Clinton (WIA Case Manager) at the local Tennessee Career Center in Cookeville at (931)520- 8733 to learn more about skills training and eligibility requirements. UCHRA works in conjunction with the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development through the Tennessee Career Centers located throughout the Upper Cumberland area. The partnership was established as part of the Workforce
Investment Act to bring all career services into one convenient location.
