Former Tennessee Tech University wrestling coach and physical education professor Johnny J. Miller has been selected to receive a lifetime service award from the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum in Stillwater, Okla.
In selecting Miller for the award, the wrestling hall of fame acknowledged Miller’s many years of service to the sport.
“This award acknowledges that your life has been significant and that you are leaving behind a benchmark and legacy that others surely will follow,” said Lee Roy Smith, executive director of the hall of fame.
Miller retired from the department of exercise science, physical education and wellness in 1992 after more than 20 years of service.
Since retirement, he has continued to be involved in the lives of TTU students by providing financial assistance informally. He formalized that assistance in April with a scholarship endowment in honor of his late wife, Dorothy “Dot” Miller, who was also a teacher.
The Johnny and Dorothy “Dot” Miller Endowment will fund scholarships for physical education students, with priority being given to those students interested in coaching wrestling.
